| Guidelines
All residencies are for two-month stays at the Huelo Flower Farm – Artists’
Retreat, and are filled, based on the following criteria:
Candidates: Only artists whose discipline is in the visual
or literary arts are invited to apply. Grants for Performance Art and
Production Crafts are not available at this time. All Applications are
reviewed by the Board, selections are made, and two sets of candidates
are notified: First Choice and Alternate. In case the First Choice is
unable to meet the requirements of the AIR Program, the Alternate is notified
immediately, in order to fill the vacancy.
Application Levels: We are seeking applicants who are
emerging artists for whom appointments as resident artists might make
a significant difference in their career.
Length of Residency: The Program offers residencies that
are two months in length. Artist agrees to arrive and depart on the dates
as determined by the Board. Artist agrees to contribute 16 hours weekly
during their residency at the Huelo Point Flower Farm in agricultural
projects, and meet community requirements.
Dates of Residency: You must select a period of time
that would be best for you. If you are available for more, please indicate
the order of your preference, for a maximum of three (3) choices.
Dates of Submission of Application, and Notification of Candidates: You
must have your completed Application received at the Huelo Point Flower
Farm – Artists’ Retreat, before the Deadline Date,
and Candidates and Alternates, for that period of Residency, will be contacted
by the Date of Notification.

How to Apply: To apply for the Artist In Residency
program, each artist must complete an Application, pay the Application Processing
Fee, and either mail or e-mail the completed Application. Applications are
available 1) On-line or 2) An Application can be mailed to you by: Sending
a self-addressed, stamped business-size envelope with postage for mailing
a 1 oz letter to the address above, requesting us to mail you an Application.
All mail must be sent to the following address: Huelo Point Flower Farm,
PO Box 791808, Paia, HI 96779. DO NOT send return-receipt registered mail.
The Huelo Point Flower Farm is not responsible for items lost in the mail.
Print or Type: All portions of the Application must be printed or typed
in English.
Return Postage for Materials: Applicants who wish to have their materials
returned to them after the selection process, are required to include a
self-addressed stamped envelope with their completed Application, with sufficient
postage to mail. Huelo Point Flower Farm is not responsible for any shortages
in postage due. Completed Application Requirements:
A Checklist has been included on the Application to help ensure that your
submission is prepared correctly for Board consideration. Please follow
the instructions carefully. ALL completed Applications MUST arrive under
the same cover – whether by Internet or Post. Please do not mail the contents
of your Application separately. Application Fee:

A $35 non-refundable Application Fee is required for ALL Applications. Fees
are accepted over the Internet by credit card. This method can be used whether
you submit your completed Application on-line, or if you choose to mail
in your entry: A receipt of the transaction must be printed and submitted
with your mailed-in Application. If you choose instead, Money Orders, issued
in US dollars only, are accepted. Please do not send cash. International
Money Orders must be drawn on a bank with a US presence. E-mail
Notification: On-line applicants will receive notification upon
receipt of their completed application, via e-mail.
OR Work Sample Instructions: Include the
following applicable documentation of recent creative work.
Visual Arts (Painters, Sculptors, Installation Artists,
Photographers, Videographers, Filmmakers, Illustrators, Cartoonists, etc)
Upload at least three, but no more than six images, of high resolution and
in JPEG format. Images must be clearly labeled with Artist’s name,
Title, Size, and Media.
Literary Arts (Poets, Writers, Screenwriters, Playwrights, Fiction, Literary
Non-Fiction, etc) Poets: Submit six to ten poems; Fiction and/or Literary
Non-Fiction Writers: Submit chapters or a section of a book (maximum 25
pages); Drama: Submit script. Send one photocopy and no original publications.
Unpublished material is welcome. Securely clip or bind all of your samples
together. Label your writing samples with your name, title, and date, and
any publication information if applicable.

Creative Arts (Philosophers, Inventors, Theorists,
Theologians, etc) Upload sample of work (maximum 25 pages, and/or 3 images).

your samples together. Label your writing samples with your name, title,
and date, and any publication information if applicable. Guests:
Accommodations are limited to selected individual residents only. No accommodations
are available to family or friends through the AIR program. One significant
other may join the AIR candidate in their accommodations for $1,000.00 US
funds plus Excise Tax of 4.442%. Visitors to the farm are welcome for day
visits and dinner, and are required to leave the grounds by 10:00 pm. Children
under the age of sixteen are not encouraged, and are required to be under
constant adult supervision and observation. Eligibility:
National and International visual artists and writers are eligible for residencies.
Applicants must be 18 years of age at the time of their residency. Huelo
Point Flower Farm assumes no responsibility for securing any documentation
that might be required by and federal agency in traveling between country
of origin and the United States. It is the sole responsibility of the individual
artist to obtain all necessary passports and visa as required.

age, race, sex, sexual orientation, disability, religion, marital status,
